CAMEL TREK

Camel trek consists to do a trip even on camels back or on feet, depending on your choice, in the desert (M’Hamid, Erg Lihoudi, Erg Chagaga ). You will be accompanied with other dromedaries to carry,: tents, blankets, mattresses, kitchen stuff and your personal luggage.

During the whole time of the camel trek you will be accompanied also with guides and camel men on whom you are going to rely to discover the different landscapes (Hamada, erg, reg, oasis), to equip you with information about nomadic family life, to enjoy sleeping under the stars and to try a traditional  lifestyle without your usual luxuries. They will prepare you the tents and typical meals as well as the sand bread. The camel trek duration is in the average of  3 hour s in the morning and the same again in the afternoon. Camel trek can take from 1 till 10 days and can be organized for one person or a small group.

A trip in Moroccan sahara desert is definitely an experience everyone should have at least once in their lifetime. It is a journey well worth the effort and you will have fond memories to last you forever.

During such a camel trek you will :

• Admire the full extent of the sand dunes.
• Experience the serenity at the top of the dunes whilst contemplating the magnificent sun-set.
• Spend the night under a star-filled sky.
• Taste the local dishes prepared by your guides.

Itinerary

Day 1: M’Hamid – Sidi Naji

Meeting point 08.00am at atfil camp in M’Hamid. We start our trip on the back of our camel to explore and discover the most beautiful parts of the big desert. Our journey is leading us towards the big dunes of Ez-Zahar. After about 3 hours ridding we enjoy our lunch break under a shadowy tree in Race Nkhel, a haven that epitomizes the eco tourism, followed by a  cup of tea to refresh our bodies to get ready for the following activity. After another 3 hours riding and/or trekking, we set up our camp in Sidi Naji (A Nomad tribe shrine). , Sidi Naji.

Day 2:  Sidi Naji – Ezzahar

This morning, we take our luggage and move on through the magic Sahara desert. We cross a big part of the desert area (about 3 hours of camel riding). Lunch will be enjoyed in the middle of the desert. Refreshed and strengthened, we continue to explore and enjoy the superb and unusual sights. After another 3 hours of walking, we set up our camp in a wonderful dune area named Ezzahar.

Day 3: Ezzahar – Erg-Smar-

After the sunrise and our breakfast, we carry on our trekking for about 3 hours with our companion animal (camel) towards the dunes of Es-Smar. Lunch will be enjoyed in the shadow of a big Tamaris tree, next to the ruins of this old village, after lunch  the hike will take 1 hour until we reach a well for taking shower, after we came back to our mobile camp

Day 4: Erg Essmer – Erg Ait Aounir

After breakfast we pack and start our way towards erg ait aounir . It will take us around 3 hours by camel or hike till we reach our lunch spot. Enjoy a light lunch prepared by your guide followed by a cup of “thé à la mente”. After a small siesta we will continue to ride back to erg ait aounir where we set up our camp

Day 5: Erg Ait Aounir – Dwaybe

The camel continues trekking through the desert. We have lunch on the way. We set up camp at night in  dwaybe. We set up camp for the night and prepare dinner. We have dinner and have an overnight in tents or under the stars.

Day 6: Dwibe – Camp Atfil

After breakfast, the caravan takes the road back to our own Bivouac. On the way, we have a stopover at Rass Nkhill for lunch. We then continue to the Bivouac. As you arrive, a well deserved shower and a delicious meal awaits you! In the evening, we are entertained by Folklore by the local nomads.
